Architect Mark Wouters saw the landscape as the starting point for the design of Catsand Island.
The country houses have been designed as tranquil silhouettes nestling in a green setting. Unobtrusive buildings that are simply present as if they had always belonged. Here, in the natural peace, time becomes blurred and every moment has new value.
‘For the design, we opted for elongated volumes in their simplest form, consisting of a single storey with a pitched roof’ says architect Mark Wouters.
‘We were inspired by the region: recognisable elements from Zeeland, such as varying roof shapes inspired by the farmhouses in the area, topped with thatch, grey slate or red tiles.’

Each of the country houses is oriented to nestle naturally in the landscape around it. You will be surrounded by the elements in their purest form.
Generous expanses glass capture the light and offer open vistas, while the houses themselves remain unobtrusive. The interplay of open and closed areas, one of the leitmotifs for the design, creates a timeless peace.

A deliberate choice was made to allow flexible use of space in the floor plans.
The residents can decide which room will be used for which purpose. You could put a conservatory next to the living room, or decide to make it your home office, where you can gaze across the endless landscape.

Mark puts it in a nutshell: ’The quest for balance was the golden thread running through the entire design process. Our aim was to create the perfect balance between a rural atmosphere and a modern twist.”
